Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has partnered with IBM to train 100,000 Egyptians in artificial intelligence over the next five years as part of the country’s National AI Strategy 2025–2030.
The agreement was signed in Cairo, with Communications Minister Dr. Amr Talaat joined by IBM Middle East Africa GM Saad Toma and North East Africa GM Marwa Abbas. Training will be delivered through IBM’s SkillsBuild platform, which offers free online courses, hands-on projects, and industry credentials in AI, quantum computing, cybersecurity, and data science.
The initiative focuses on building future-ready talent among youth, ICT professionals, and government employees. MCIT will support the program by providing venues, selecting candidates, and integrating IBM into national digital transformation events.
This partnership marks a key step in fulfilling one of six pillars of Egypt’s AI strategy – talent development. The broader strategy, launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, aims to position Egypt as a regional AI leader, with goals to grow the ICT sector’s GDP share to 7.7% and develop 30,000 AI professionals by 2030.
The deal also aligns with IBM’s global pledge to train 2 million people in AI by 2026. It follows a similar agreement signed last month between MCIT and Microsoft to train another 100,000 Egyptians in AI technologies.
