In Egypt, the phrase “mabrouk, kibirti” – “congratulations, you are a woman” – often marks a girl’s first period. Yet, behind this cultural rite lies a deep gap in reproductive knowledge, with many women lacking accurate information about their own bodies.
Addressing this need, Cairo-based health startup Motherbeing has launched Daleela, an AI-powered reproductive health assistant built for Arabic-speaking women. The app aims to bridge cultural taboos and empower women with instant, evidence-based answers to sensitive questions about menstruation, sex, contraception, fertility, and more – in their own dialects.
Unlike generic health bots, Daleela tailors responses to local norms, offering private, judgment-free support. In just eight months, it’s answered over 650,000 questions and now handles more than 2,000 daily interactions. The app is especially popular among newlyweds and women preparing for marriage, who often face confusion due to a lack of accessible sex education.
“If a user describes a possible medical issue, the app refers her to a doctor,” says Yousef Elsammaa, co-founder and CEO. “Daleela even collects medical history and symptoms to prep detailed reports for consultations – all fully encrypted and private.”
Beyond symptom checks, Daleela also tackles under-discussed topics like female pleasure, orgasm, and intimacy. It debunks common myths, provides tips for improving relationships, and educates women on often-stigmatized issues like vaginal health and sexual satisfaction.
The AI engine is backed by in-house medical experts and a locally developed knowledge base, ensuring both scientific accuracy and cultural sensitivity. Its dual approach -offering personalized education and streamlining doctor consultations – makes it a standout in a region where reproductive health is often underserved.
Motherbeing will further this mission at the Daleela Women’s Health Summit on May 31, bringing together over 3,000 women and health experts to discuss awareness, empowerment, and shared experiences.
As access to women’s healthcare continues to evolve, Daleela is reshaping what it means to get answers – and support – in a space where asking questions hasn’t always felt safe.
