WordPress just made a big move to future-proof your favorite website builder – it’s officially formed an AI team to guide the next wave of artificial intelligence tools across its massive developer community.
Announced Tuesday, the new task force includes a mix of big brains from across the web: James LePage, head of AI at WordPress’ parent company Automattic; Felix Arntz and Pascal Birchler from Google; and Jeff Paul, Director of Open Source at web design firm 10up.
While developers have already been tinkering with AI on WordPress for a while – there are over 660 AI plug-ins out there and counting – this new team is WordPress’ way of saying: “Let’s get intentional.”
“We want AI development to be thoughtful, not chaotic,” explained Mary Hubbard, executive director at WordPress, in a blog post. “A unified team stewards AI development thoughtfully, avoids fragmentation, and ensures alignment with the long-term goals of WordPress.” Translation? It’s time to bring some order to the AI playground.
