NerdzFactory Company, in partnership with Google DeepMind and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, has launched the Experience AI program in Nigeria to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to secondary school students.
The initiative aims to train 3,150 teachers across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti States, reaching an estimated 157,000 students by December 2026. Backed by Google.org and led locally by NerdzFactory, the program provides free AI learning resources for students aged 11 to 14 and their educators.
At the launch event in Lagos, Motolani Falabi, Operations Lead at NerdzFactory, described the initiative as a bridge to opportunity, urging a shift from passive tech consumption to active creation. “Let’s build a future where Nigerian children are not just consumers of technology, but creators, innovators, and global leaders in it,” she said.
Kat Leadbetter, Global Partnerships Manager at Raspberry Pi, said AI literacy is essential for today’s youth, adding that the curriculum aligns with UNESCO’s AI competency framework and is already in use in over 160 countries, reaching 1.6 million students globally.
Despite federal policy goals, most Nigerian schools still lack the infrastructure to teach AI. Experience AI addresses this gap by aligning with the national academic calendar and working with state education ministries to embed the program sustainably in classrooms.
Veteran teacher trainer Solomon Ijishakin emphasized that mindset is as crucial as materials. “If we give teachers the tools and confidence to teach AI, we’re giving students the permission to dream bigger,” he said.
The Experience AI initiative represents a shift from policy talk to tangible action – empowering teachers and students to engage with emerging technology and prepare for the future of work.
