Africa’s broadcasters are preparing to explore how artificial intelligence can redefine the continent’s media landscape at the Broadcasters Convention – Southern Africa 2025, set for Harare, Zimbabwe. The event is hosted by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation in partnership with the Broadcasting Media Alliance and the Southern African Broadcasting Association.
This year’s theme, Content, Connectivity, Collaboration – Transforming Africa’s Broadcast Media Landscape in the AI Era, underscores a focus on innovation, inclusion, and regional cooperation.
AI tools are rapidly reshaping the industry, from newsrooms using automated editing to algorithms that analyze viewer behavior and customize programming in real time. While Africa has expanded digital media access, millions remain underserved, making connectivity both a challenge and an opportunity.
The convention’s organizers stress that no broadcaster can navigate these changes alone. Strategic partnerships will be essential to connect more communities and ensure media reflects African values while adopting new technologies.
With content, connectivity, and collaboration as guiding principles, the gathering aims to position Southern Africa’s broadcast sector as a leader in the region’s media renaissance.
