Smart Africa and Germany’s development agency GIZ have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to boost digital health across Africa.
The deal lays the groundwork for a secure, ethical, and internationally aligned ecosystem for health data exchange. It supports the creation of the African Health Data Space – a vision for cross-border, interoperable health data systems that improve care across the continent.
The initiative aims to drive digital health innovation, improve data interoperability, and establish governance frameworks that safeguard personal health information.
“Today is more than just the signing of a document – it’s the start of something transformational,” said Smart Africa CEO Lacina Koné. “We are laying the foundation for a future where health data flows securely, ethically, and with purpose for the benefit of every African citizen.”
