Google is rolling out its new AI-powered business calling feature to all U.S. users, allowing people to gather information – such as pricing and availability – from local businesses without having to make the call themselves. The agentic AI tool, previously tested through Search Labs, now appears when users search phrases like “pet groomers near me”, prompting them to let AI handle follow-up questions and requests.
The AI introduces itself as a Google automated system before speaking to businesses, a safeguard added after previous backlash over human-sounding AI calls.
The feature is available to all users, with higher usage limits for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
In addition, Google is enhancing AI Mode in Search by integrating the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which excels at advanced reasoning, math, and coding. Subscribers can choose it via a drop-down in AI Mode.
Google also introduced Deep Search, a feature that conducts hundreds of searches and synthesizes the results into comprehensive, cited reports within minutes. It’s designed for complex topics such as career planning, financial research, or big life decisions.
These updates bolster Google’s efforts to compete with ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI, while expanding AI Mode’s capabilities – which now include voice conversations and AI-powered shopping experiences.
