Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has conducted a hybrid introductory AI training for designated focal persons from key Sector Ministries and government institutions. The session, held in Accra, is a preparatory step ahead of an upcoming AI Bootcamp for Cabinet Ministers.
The training aims to equip selected officials with foundational AI knowledge to support their ministers and lead digital initiatives within their respective institutions.
In remarks delivered on behalf of Minister Samuel Nartey George, Director of Human Resources Joseph Tetteh emphasized the need for internal champions to drive AI adoption across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). “These individuals will be positioned as internal champions to move innovation and data-driven decision-making beyond rhetoric,” Tetteh said.
The effort follows the Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) held in Ada, where government leaders agreed on the urgency of integrating AI to support the Reset Agenda.
The Ministry plans to develop sector-specific AI strategies, which will be endorsed by the President and tied to Ministerial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These strategies aim to track how AI tools are used to improve public service delivery.
“This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering an environment for AI-driven efficiency, transparency, and evidence-based policymaking,” Tetteh added.
The training signals Ghana’s broader effort to build institutional AI readiness, ensuring public institutions are prepared to embrace emerging technologies.
