South African startup Eden AI has launched BlossomCare, a confidential, AI-powered mental health companion designed to support vulnerable women in Africa, including sex workers and pregnant teens.
Founded in 2021 by Oluwabamigbe Oni, Eden AI began as a small consulting firm specializing in data science, machine learning, and computer vision. It has since grown into a health-focused technology platform delivering AI-driven solutions across Africa.
“From AI-powered maternal health tools to mental health support for vulnerable women, Eden AI has continually taken on projects that blend innovation with social good,” Oni said. “This momentum signals Eden AI’s evolution into a key player in Africa’s AI-for-impact ecosystem.”
BlossomCare, developed in partnership with the Blossom Girls Outreach Foundation (BGOF), offers 24/7 emotional support via WhatsApp in English, Yoruba, or Pidgin. It provides referrals to psychologists, peer groups, and legal aid, as well as escalation to in-person care for high-risk cases.
“In Africa, vulnerable women face stigma and inadequate mental health resources. While 86% of women own mobile phones, few digital mental health services are designed for their needs,” Oni said. “BlossomCare fills this gap by combining AI, multilingual support, and community-based outreach.”
The platform uses large language models alongside community networks to deliver private, stigma-free mental health care. It reflects Eden AI’s broader mission of leveraging technology to improve quality of life across African societies.
