Microsoft has appointed Lillian Barnard as Chief of Enterprise Partner Solutions for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), expanding her leadership role from President of Microsoft Africa. The move highlights Microsoft’s strategy to scale digital and AI-driven transformation through its regional partner ecosystem.
Barnard will now lead efforts to empower partners across MEA to develop and scale locally relevant AI solutions, with a focus on accelerating job creation, economic growth, and digital infrastructure.
“Strong partnerships are at the heart of this mission,” Barnard said. “We’re empowering partners to become not only consumers but producers of AI innovation.”
Under her leadership in Africa, Microsoft launched key initiatives such as the AI Skills Initiative and the Airband connectivity program. The company also became the first hyperscale cloud provider with datacentres in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and recently announced plans to expand with a new cloud region in East Africa.
Microsoft confirmed that South Africa remains a key market, with recruitment underway for a new country Managing Director to deepen local engagement and AI integration across sectors.
