In a major move to modernize public service, Kenya will roll out a nationwide artificial intelligence (AI) training program for government workers starting July 2025.
The initiative, led by the State Departments for Public Service and ICT & Digital Economy in partnership with the Kenya School of Government (KSG), aims to boost innovation, improve service delivery, and accelerate AI adoption across government operations.
Training will target various professional groups—Procurement, HR, Finance, Communications, and Administrative Services—with tailored modules. Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries will also receive specialized training to ensure leadership buy-in and strategic alignment.
Courses will be delivered via KSG’s eLearning platforms and the newly launched Regional Centre of Competence in Digital and AI Skilling. A monitoring and sustainability framework will guide long-term impact.
The program aligns with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and supports the country’s ambition to become a regional leader in AI and digital innovation.
By equipping civil servants with AI skills, the government hopes to increase efficiency, foster innovation, and better navigate the fourth industrial revolution.
