Fintura, an AI-powered accounting platform for professional services, has won the South African chapter of the Startup World Cup, securing a place in the global finals in Silicon Valley. The competition will bring together winners from more than 20 countries to vie for investment, exposure, and global recognition.
Backed by angel investor and former Kalon Venture Partners CEO Clive Butkow, Fintura is the first South African startup in recent years to win a regional round with a fintech product aimed at digitizing professional services in emerging markets.
“This win validates the massive opportunity in rethinking how accounting and compliance services are delivered across Africa,” said Butkow, now managing partner of Conducive Capital. “Fintura isn’t just a platform—it’s solving real, daily pain points for accountants who are drowning in fragmented, outdated tools.”
A unified platform built by practitioners
Founded by accountant Bernice Christine Houy, Fintura integrates billing, compliance, tax, HR, and audit tasks into one AI-powered dashboard to reduce administrative work and improve efficiency. “We’ve built what we wish existed,” Houy said. “Our goal is to empower accounting professionals with smarter tools so they can focus on strategic work, not paperwork.”
Co-founded with Reece Bailey, the company joins a growing group of African startups showing that world-class innovation is emerging outside traditional tech hubs.
Global stage for South African innovation
The Startup World Cup, hosted by Pegasus Tech Ventures, is often called the “Olympics of Startups” and has been a launchpad for high-growth ventures. Previous winners have raised millions in follow-on funding.
“Innovation doesn’t only happen in Silicon Valley,” Butkow said. “It’s happening here in South Africa, solving problems that matter—especially in professional services, where digitisation is long overdue.”
Fintura’s win underscores the rise of vertical SaaS and AI-driven solutions in Africa, with investors increasingly drawn to B2B products that deliver measurable impact.
