At the 2025 Huawei South Africa Connect Event, Huawei Enterprise CEO Gene Zhang reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to building South Africa’s digital and AI future.
“With 26 years of local innovation, Huawei is dedicated to driving intelligent transformation and building a smarter, more connected South Africa,” said Zhang.
Huawei’s local milestones include launching South Africa’s first 5G network, becoming the first hyperscale cloud provider with a local availability zone, and spearheading AI-driven solutions across sectors like mining, finance, and urban planning.
The company’s AI strategy addresses key national challenges:
- Boosting data utilization (currently under 30%)
- Scaling computing power to meet projected 500x global AI demand by 2030
- Driving industry integration through cloud and AI adoption
Through its six-layer All Intelligence architecture, Huawei supports zero-trust security, cloud platforms that accelerate development cycles, and AI frameworks already applied in 1,000+ real-world scenarios.
Local investment and training are central to Huawei’s vision. The company:
- Partners with 1,400+ South African firms
- Delivers 97% of enterprise sales locally
- Aims to train 50,000 ICT professionals by 2028, addressing a national 500,000-person tech talent gap
Huawei has also established an Innovation Center with President Cyril Ramaphosa, a local OpenLab, and a training center to grow tech skills.
