Nigeria’s Federal Government has reaffirmed its goal to train 20 million young people in digital skills by 2030, in partnership with UNICEF, as part of a renewed drive to boost innovation and tackle youth unemployment.
Vice President Kashim Shettima made the announcement during a meeting with senior UNICEF officials at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. At the center of the plan is Generation Unlimited Nigeria (GenU 9JA), a public-private platform supporting Nigerians aged 10 to 24 in transitioning from learning to earning through digital tools, training, and entrepreneurship.
Shettima, who accepted the role of GenU 9JA Board Chair, called the initiative a national priority.
“If we truly wish to survive and thrive, we must empower our youth through digital means,” he said. “GenU 9JA aligns with our Renewed Hope Agenda and offers real opportunities for inclusive development.”
The initiative aims to harness Nigeria’s youth population as a key driver of economic transformation.
