Africa’s AI revolution just got a serious upgrade.
Cassava Technologies – a global digital heavyweight with deep African roots – has joined forces with Zindi, the continent’s largest professional network of data scientists, in a bold new partnership to crank up AI innovation across Africa. The two signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to combine Cassava’s GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) muscle with Zindi’s AI challenge platform magic.
The goal? Accelerate digital transformation on the continent by giving developers and startups the high-powered tools they need to tackle Africa’s most urgent problems – with data, creativity, and a whole lot of code.
Powering Up the AI Engine
“For Africa’s AI ecosystem to really shine, we need to provide access to the right platforms and resources,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group CEO of Cassava Technologies. “This partnership lets us blend our GPU infrastructure with Zindi’s brainpower to spark real innovation. We’re here to help African talent create digital solutions made for Africa, by Africa.”
Zindi isn’t new to this. The platform is known for hosting AI challenges for everyone from NGOs to government agencies – and now, with Cassava’s computing horsepower, they’re leveling up the impact of those problem-solving sprints.
Fueling Talent, Jobs, and Homegrown Solutions
Celina Lee, CEO and co-founder of Zindi, is equally fired up: “This collaboration will boost access to quality African datasets, support the development of local AI solutions, and equip builders with the tech they need to thrive. We’re excited to launch new challenges that upskill talent, drive entrepreneurship, and create jobs.”
Basically, this isn’t just about flashy tech – it’s about creating a pipeline of opportunity and preparing Africa’s digital workforce for the future.
AI for Africa, by Africa
The partnership fits squarely into Cassava’s broader AI playbook. In 2024, the company announced its intention to build Africa’s first AI factory (yes, an AI factory) and launched a new AI business unit. It’s all part of a mission to promote ethical, inclusive AI adoption on the continent.
With operations spanning Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and the U.S., Cassava Technologies—via subsidiaries like Cassava AI, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Africa Data Centres, and Sasai Fintech—already delivers next-gen digital tools in 94 countries.
Zindi, meanwhile, connects a global community of more than 80,000 data scientists from over 180 countries. Translation: they’re making world-class AI skills accessible to everyone, not just the usual suspects.
This partnership is more than just a handshake—it’s a launchpad. One that’s set to fuel innovation, empower local talent, and spark inclusive economic growth across the continent. Africa’s AI future? It’s loading—and fast.
