The rise of COVID-19 infections in Gauteng is a concern for the provincial government.
The province has more than 4,000 active COVID-19 cases, and infection numbers are doubling weekly in some areas.
Professor Adrian Puren from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases says this could be a sign of a possible third wave.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health confirmed that the variant dominant in India has been detected in South Africa.
