EFF members have gathered in Brackenfell since early this morning to join a legal, planned protest to Brackenfell High school.
Earlier today the police used stun grenades, teargas and a water cannon to disperse crowds that arrived too early.
The City of Cape Town gave the EFF permission to march to the school, protest at the school and to hand over a memorandum with a maximum of 100 protesters.
The EFF has been negotiating with the police to allow more protesters to join the march, which has now increased to about 500.
The EFF planned the anti-racism protest following claims that a matric function was allegedly organized for white pupils only.
