Siviwe Gwarube, chief deputy of the DA, has demanded an investigation into Parliament Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nkqakula.
Nkqakula and Amos Masondo, chief of the National Council of Provinces, are accused of misleading Parliament regarding the salary of Xolile George, secretary to Parliament.
According to the Sunday Times, George’s annual remuneration is inflated to R4.4 million.
According to Gwarube, this is twice the R2.6 million salary that a secretary of parliament should receive.
“This contradicts the principles of openness. In light of the fact that, as members of Parliament, we were asked to approve a motion stating that the secretary to Parliament will earn R2.6 million, this goes against sensible financial management.
