The South African Democratic Teachers Union is urging all its eligible members to get vaccinated.
There is still no clear information on when all teachers will become eligible for the jab.
Unesco is urging all countries to vaccinate teachers early in their rollout.
The organisation feels teachers should be prioritised for learning can continue safely, and schools can stay open.
“Our position is that all teachers have to be vaccinated and those eligible, we’ve been encouraging them,” says SADTU General-Secretary, Mugwena Maluleke.
So far, over 3,500 teachers have died from the Coronavirus countrywide
