SA Reports 13 155 New COVID-19 Cases

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, reports that 13,155 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in South Africa in the past 24 hours, representing a 23.7% positivity rate. The total number of laboratory-confirmed cases now stands at 1,823,319. A further 112 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 58,702 to date. 12 549 484 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below.

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (66%), followed by Western Cape (9%).

North West accounted for 6%; KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga each accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo each accounted for 3%; and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s cases.
