President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Sunday at 8 pm.
This comes after his meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council and as the country battles a third coronavirus wave.
In the last 24 hours, just over 18,700 people have tested positive countrywide.
Gauteng accounts for just under 12,000 of those cases.
The country has seen 215 Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the death toll to 59,621.
