Police have shot dead three suspects in Bishopstowe in Pietermaritzburg.
The KwaZulu-Natal forensic investigators are combing the scene, while one person is on the run.
The suspects are linked to a string of murders in KwaNdengezi as well as the murder of Lieutenant-Colonel Jabulani Ndawonde last month.
He was Acting Station Commander of the Ndwedwe Police Station.
