Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize’s political home – the Moses Mabhida region in the KZN Midlands – says it welcomes President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to place him on special leave.
This, as he fights for his political survival, following revelations that his close associates benefited from the multi-million-rand contract awarded to communications company Digital Vibes.
Mkhize is on special leave, pending the finalisation of the Special Investigating Unit’s probe.
eNCA understands Mkhize’s already met with the ANC’s top leadership in KwaZulu-Natal, including chairperson Sihle Zikalala and Provincial Secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli to brief them about the Digital Vibes scandal and gave his side of the story.
But, the party’s top brass in Mkhize’s home province remains tight-lipped about his special leave.
Meanwhile, there are growing calls for him to be axed.
