The Office of the President and Cabinet has reported that a military aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, along with nine others, has gone missing. Departing from Lilongwe around 9:15 AM on Monday, the plane was bound for Mzuzu but failed to land as planned.

Despite efforts by aviation authorities, contact with the aircraft has not been established since it disappeared from radar.

In response, President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has canceled his scheduled trip to the Bahamas and instructed both regional and national agencies to commence an immediate search and rescue mission. Updates will be provided to the public as new information emerges.
