Health expert Professor Tulio de Oliveira warns immuno-compromised people can produce new COVID-19 variants where the virus circulates and mutates within their bodies.
Medical specialists uncovered potentially dangerous coronavirus mutations in a 36-year-old woman who has uncontrolled HIV.
She was unable to shake the COVID-19 virus for close to eight months.
De Oliveira says this discovery will help not only COVID-19 patients but also HIV-positive people get more treatment.
He also said the third wave of COVID-19 will hit the inland provinces harder.
He says the resurgence is being accelerated by the same variant the drove the second wave.
The third wave has already arrived in Gauteng, the Free State, the Northern Cape and the North West.
