Netcare CEO Richard Friedland says hospitals in Gauteng are currently under tremendous strain.
This as COVID-19 infections continue to rise as the third wave bites the province.
Friedland says vaccine supply constraints are not making the situation any better.
The country currently has 61,246 active cases.
Gauteng accounts for most of these cases.
“Here in Gauteng in terms of active cases, we’re now approximately 50 percent of where we were in the second wave,” Friedland said.
“What we’re seeing with the third wave is it might last a bit longer than expected.
“We’re seeing a significant rise in hospital admissions. Our hospitals are under pressure.”
