The ANC’s national working committee (NWC) announced on Tuesday that all party members facing criminal charges, who have not stepped aside, will be suspended.
The ANC NWC says it will write all affected members who failed to step aside as directed by the NEC.
Magashule is expected to receive a letter from his deputy, Jessie Duarte, to enforce his suspension, given his resistance to step aside.
Magashule insiders said he tried to fight back on Sunday, as he detailed his consultation with former party leaders, but it was clear that his arguments would not be tolerated.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, supported by other party officials, remained resolute that suspensions must be enforced and that the NEC decision could not be deferred.
SACP general secretary, Blade Nzimande says the ANC’s decision to suspend members is a step in the right direction.
Nzimande says the move will help foster unity, weed out factionalism, and strengthen the governing party.
