In a formerly downtrodden part of Johannesburg, an enterprising developer took a chance on a group of old warehouses, and it blossomed into an inspiring story of urban renewal. Victoria Yards was once a series of ramshackle, abandoned garages, which Brian Green converted into studio space for all manner of local artisans. By attracting workers and shoppers from the local area, he created an ecosystem that embodies the ’15 minute city’ concept whereby the daily necessities of life for urban dwellers are located within 15 minutes by foot or bike.
