A Sit Down with June Barasa to Highlight her Experiences as an African Woman in Tech

Recent statistics from 2023 reveal that startups led solely by female founders or with an all-female founding team secured a mere 2.3% of total funding in Africa. Conversely, teams featuring at least one woman garnered 15% of the funding. In the previous year, both figures stood at 2.4% and 13%, respectively. Motivated by these disparities, Barasa is constantly advocating for women in the industry through initiatives like GirlsCode, and collaborations with the Mastercard Foundation and Moringa School. While the International Women’s Day celebration may be behind us, the conversation around gender parity in the tech industry remains crucial.
