Low-cost airline 1time has equipped several aircraft operating select routes with portable Playstation (PSP) gaming consoles, which are available for hire to passengers at a charge of R60 per flight.

"We wanted to find a way to provide quality in-fight entertainment, but not increase our ticket prices," says 1time Marketing Manager, Anya Potgieter, who spearheaded the project.

The PSPs are loaded with a range of new-generation games, as well as a selection of movies, most of which are suitable for children. The airline expects uptake to be highest on its three and a half hour flight to Zanzibar, especially as research showed parents travelling with children would welcome the distraction PSP rental would offer.
