I'm getting spammed out of my mind. What can I do to stop my inbox from becoming a spammer's junkyard?
Web-based email service, such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail, have built-in spam filters that you can make use of, with varying levels of success. The only thing you can do to improve this is to make sure that they're activated in your settings.
If you're using Microsoft's Outlook, then try one of these two spam filters:
Both of them are not free, but you can download a trial version to check it out and, if it works wonders, buy one.
Mozilla's Thunderbird email service also has a built-in spam filter that you must make sure is activated.
At the end of the day, however, prevention is the best cure. So if your current email address is being spammed too much, it might be time to change your email address.
After changing your address, try this strategy: never, ever use your primary address to register for anything on the web. Create a second, web-based email address that you use to register on other websites with.
The aim is to make it hard for spammers to get hold of your address. Ultimately this will not stop your primary address from being spammed, but it will slow the spammers down.
