Where can I see what the size of my PCs page file is? And how can I change it? Will this make my computer faster? I'm using Windows XP.

Although you won't see marked increases in your computer's speed, play around with different settings for the page file and see what happens.

Here's how:

  1. Go to your desktop and right-click on "My Computer".
  2. Now click on "Properties".
  3. In the window that pops up, click on the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Under the "Performance" heading, click on "Settings".
  5. Another window pops up — go to the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Under the "Virtual memory" heading you'll see it speaks of a "paging file" — this is what you need to increase to have more hard disc space available to be used as RAM.
  7. To change it, simply click on the "Change" button. Then you'll see there are fields where you can type in new sizes (Initial and Maximum sizes).
  8. After changing it, click on "Set" and then on "OK".
