Windows XP comes pre-loaded with quite a few fonts, but it's fun to experiment with new ones. You can download free fonts on a number of websites, but try this one to get you started.
The files are often made available in zipped-format, so the first step is to extract the fonts using WinZip or Windows' built-in system (just double-click on the zip file).
You can save the unzipped file anywhere on your hard drive. Now you have to install it on your system:
- Go to "Start" and click on "Control Panel".
- A new window pops up.
- On the menu on the left, click on "Switch to Classic View" (if it says "Switch to Category View" here then ignore this step as you're already in the classic view).
- Double-click on "Fonts" (if nothing happens, right-click with your mouse on "Fonts" and choose "Explore").
- A new window pops up,
displaying all your installed fonts.
- Go to "File" and select "Install New Font".
- A new window pops up.
- Browse to the folder where you saved the new font (use the directory structure in the bottom left field). When the new font that you want is displayed in the top field under "List of fonts", highlight it with your mouse by clicking on it once and then click on "OK".
- The new font should now be loaded on your system.
- Close the Fonts and Control Panel windows.
