FC AK won a place in the Premier Soccer League's Promotion Play-offs final against Bay United after beating Dynamos 2-1 in a tense semi-final playoff second leg clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
FC AK ended the match with 10 men after substitute Alois Bunjira was sent off in the 81st minut. Referee Matthew Dyer adjudged that his tackle on goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi was illegal and sent off the former Zimbabwean international for dangerous play.
The Eldorado Park side took the field against Dynamos minus five key players but managed to clinch their place in the play-offs final winning the two legged tie 2-1 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Eldorado Park last Wednesday.
FC AK capitalised on a home side that was off form in front of goal.
Dynamos continued where they left off in the first leg at Eldorado Park by missing easy goal scoring chances.
The biggest culprits were Evans Maloka and former Kaizer Chiefs
striker Louis Agyemang. A goalkeeping blunder by Dynamos keeper Sanudi gave FC AK the opening goal on a plate in the 31st minute. At the other end FC AK goalkeeper Oscar Ramogoadi was again the star of the show.
Ramogoadi was man of the match in the first leg and on Sunday made a number of vital saves to earn his side a place in the Promotion Play-offs Final.
Maloka wasted a chance in the ninth minute when he shot straight at Ramogoadi.
Then Maloka threw away another great chance in the 20th minute when he broke down the left flank and with two teammates in better positions to score he opted to go for glory and his tame effort was easily dealt with by Ramogoadi.
FC AK who were playing a lot more enterprising soccer than they showed in the 0-0 first leg, started taking the match to Dynamos.
Former Orlando Pirates striker Boitumelo Moleyane blasted home an in swinging corner that was completely missed by Sanudi and Moleyane made no
mistake putting FC AK into a 1-0 lead after 31 minutes.
With the away goal counting double meant that Dynamos had to score twice without reply to go into the promotion playoff.
Agyemang missed a glorious chance to level the score and give Dynamos hope in the 39th minute when with only Ramogoadi to beat the Ghanaian striker shot weakly and the FC AK keeper managed to pouch the ball.
Former Moroka Swallows midfielder Mark McVeigh made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when his clever back header beat Sanudi but that goal signalled a great fight back from the home side.
Maloka gave Dynamos a lifeline when he reduced the deficit in the 58th minute. But Dynamos still needed two goals to go through to the final and had to make sure FC AK did not score another away goal.
The self-same Maloka missed another great chance in the 68th minute while Ramogoadi did well to deny Dynamos Klaas Galane an equaliser from a powerful header in the 71st minute.
Galane, the Dynamos skipper, looked to have scored the equaliser in the 75th minute but the goal was controversially ruled offside.
Then came Bunjira's red card after a kamikaze challenge on Sanudi. But FC AK managed to hold on with 10 men.
They travel to Port Elizabeth for the first leg of the play-offs final against Bay United on Wednesday.
The return leg will be played at Eldorado Park next Sunday.
Bay United beat Black Leopards 2-1 on aggregate.
