After scoring 24 goals in England's Premier League two seasons ago, South African striker Benni McCarthy currently finds himself in the wilderness at Blackburn Rovers.

Minor injuries, a dip in form and the arrival of Roque Santa Cruz has limited McCarthy's impact last season and he has not scored in open play for his club in just under a year now.

This past weekend, Blackburn manager Paul Ince gave McCarthy a 12-minute run when he took off Jason Roberts and replaced him with the South African striker.

McCarthy looked sharp, threatening to score a late winner, and the Bafana ace is adamant that he can rediscover his form.

"I was keen to play," McCarthy told The Times Online.

"It's very frustrating. I'll take full advantage of any opportunity. I know I've still got the knack. The most important thing is getting off the mark," concluded the Bafana Bafana star.
