Sparks are expected to fly when South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns meet in the semi-finals of the Telkom Charity Cup on Saturday.

The two teams will meet in the second semi-final of this mouth-watering one-day event at 12pm.

Star-studded Sundowns have signed 11 players during the transfer window period — including Bafana Bafana stars like Sibusiso Zuma, Benedict Vilakazi, Katlego Mashego and Siboniso Gaxa — and it will be interesting to see how these stars compete against the youthful Chiefs line-up.

'Amakhosi' youngsters Siphelele Mthembu, George Lebese and Michael Nkambule showed recently that they can stand their own against the best in the game when Chiefs held European Champions Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in Cape Town.

However, United's class proved too much for them in the final when the 'Red Devils' walloped the 'Amakhosi' 4-0 at Loftus Stadium just a few days later.

It will be interesting to see how they fare against Bafana stars like Vilakazi and Zuma, but Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has faith in his youngsters.

"I want to give everybody an opportunity to play. I will therefore start with a few youngsters like Thabang Rooi, Gordon Gilbert and Siphelele Mthembu," Ertugral told Backpagepix.

He added: "Some of the new players like Jose Torrealba, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Valery Nahayo looked tired in the final. I don't want to overuse them and that’s why I will rest them."

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Trott Moloto has confirmed that the 'Brazilians' will be bringing a full-strength squad to the Charity Cup as "this tournament offers the last opportunity to assess and try new combinations before the season starts".

"We are working on a plan of integrating the new players into the Sundowns system and working on new combinations," concluded Moloto.
