Black Leopards defended the Limpopo Soccer Challenge after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 5-4 on penalties at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
The match was all square at 1-1 after 90 minutes and therefore went to a penalty shootout.
Earlier Mamelodi Sundowns wasted an opportunity to score after they were awarded a free kick in the ninth minute after Katlego Mphela was brought down just outside the penalty area box.
However, it was the team from Venda who took the lead in the 83rd minute after Mayasisilua Lubanzadio converted a cross from Chris Netshidzivhe with a superb header.
Two minutes later Sundowns' new recruit Sibusiso Zuma justified his salary by equalising for the 'Brazilians'.
The game also saw the return of Dillion Sheppard for Sundowns after a long absence due to injury and he played superbly.
It was Downs' Fanyana Dhladhla that missed his penalty which ensured Black Leopards retained their title.
