Mamelodi Sundowns winger Koketso Mmotong admits that he has had very little sleep since missing a penalty against Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Charity on Saturday.
Mmotong's miss handed Chiefs a 5-3 win over their arch rivals.
"I felt terrible. It was as if the world could have opened up and swallowed me," Mmotong told Sunshine Press.
He added: "But I received consolation from the guys who told me that it happens to the best in this game. They encouraged me to hold my head up and not allow the misfortune to demoralise me.
"I initially wanted to switch my phone off. But on second thoughts left it on and I received quite a lot of calls, both negative and positive. But the positive calls far out-weighed the negatives and most encouraged me to put the experience as one of those bad days at the office."
Mmotong said his team-mates told him that he had taken a bad fall and how he stood up and dusted himself to continue with his career was
up to him.
"They said if I wallow in self-pity then I was never going to overcome that experience and it will haunt me for the rest of my life. I really felt uplifted and wish to thank all those guys who called to encourage me to fight even harder," concluded Mmotong.
Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Trott Moloto also confessed to have been really disappointed to have lost the game, but added that he was greatly encouraged by the attitude and the application of each and every player who was given an opportunity to represent the club.
