We have come to the end of another successful Crusade (pun intended)! Yes, the Crusaders have won their seventh Super Rugby title, confirming their dominance of the southern hemisphere scene.

Now it is time for us to look back at the season and bring you the players, individuals, that performed most consistently throughout the season — our Team of the Tournament.

Following our weekly selections, this was easy - most votes throughout the season won and if the votes are tied we would have made the call.

Surprisingly the Stormers, who overcame a slow start to just miss out on the play-offs, topped the list with four players.

They edged the Crusaders, who have three, with the Chiefs, Hurricanes and Sharks (two each) next best. The Blues and Waratahs (one each) make up the numbers.

The player who made the weekly selections most often is Crusaders lock Brad Thorn with eight appearances in 16 weeks. Sharks number eight Ryan Kankowski's five appearances are next best.

Team of the Tournament:

15 — Conrad Jantjes (Stormers):
There is talk that he will displace veteran World Cup-winner Percy Montgomery in the Springbok number fifteen jersey. This would be one of Peter de Villiers's 'Super 14 form selections'.
Bubbling under: Leon MacDonald (Crusaders)

14 — Lelia Masaga (Chiefs):
His team may not have made the play-offs, nor was it one of the most consistent. However, Masaga had a number of outstanding games and did enough to edge Stormers star Tonderai Chavhanga - who was hampered by injury.
Bubbling under: Tonderai Chavhanga (Stormers)

13 — Isaia Toeava (Blues):
Nobody dominated in the number thirteen jersey, but Ice edged Conrad Smith (Hurricanes) and Ryan Cross (Western Force).
Bubbling under: Ryan Cross (Western Force)

12 — Jean de Villiers (Stormers):
Having put the disappointment of his World Cup injury behind him, De Villiers again showed that he is still South Africa's premier inside centre and one of the most creative players in the southern hemisphere.
Bubbling under: Ma'a Nonu (Hurricanes)

11 — Lote Tuqiri (Waratahs):
He is definitely having his best season since crossing codes from Rugby League and he will be a key player in Australia's international campaigns this year. His experience will be invaluable to the youngsters coming into the Wallaby set-up.
Bubbling under: Sireli Naqelevuki (Stormers)

10 — Stephen Donald (Chiefs):
His kicking may have been a touch erratic at times, but there is no doubting his class and the quality of his allround game.
Bubbling under: Peter Grant (Stormers)

9 — Piri Weepu (Hurricanes):
He may not be All Black coach Graham Henry's speed-dial list, but he remains a quality player that has just completed an outstanding Super 14 season.
Bubbling under: Ricky Januarie (Stormers)

8 — Ryan Kankowski (Sharks):
Without doubt one of the form players in the competition and also one of the most consistent, even when the Sharks went through that mid-season slump.
Bubbling under: Wycliff Palu (Waratahs)

7 — Richie McCaw (Crusaders):
No big fuss, just one of the most consistent openside flanks around. Despite all the pre-tournament hype, the ELVs made no difference to his game.
Bubbling under: Phil Waugh (Waratahs)

6 — Schalk Burger (Stormers):
Despite the injury that has ruled him out for several weeks, he has still been one of the standout players and his true value was really only seen (and felt) once he was no longer playing for the Western Cape franchise.
Bubbling under: Jerome Kaino (Blues)

5 — Andries Bekker (Stormers):
He was rewarded for his Super 14 form with a Springbok call-up and might displace World Cup winner Victor Matfield in the Bok starting XV. Not many dissenting voices on those calls.
Bubbling under: Dan Vickerman (Waratahs)

4 — Brad Thorn (Crusaders):
He was the player who got the most votes throughout the season and eight times (almost double that of the next best player) he was voted as the best in his position. That says it all.
Bubbling under: Toby Lynn (Chiefs)

3 — Greg Somerville (Crusaders):
He remains a rock for the Crusaders and All Blacks as he goes about his business in an unassuming way.
Bubbling under: John Afoa (Blues)

2 — Andrew Hore (Hurricanes):
Without doubt the standout hooker in the Super 14 this year and he is putting pressure on Kevin Mealamu for the All Black starting birth.
Bubbling under: Bismarck du Plessis (Sharks)

1 — Tendai Mtawarira (Sharks):
Having already attained cult status in Durban, he is likely to have an even bigger following when he steps onto the international stage.
Bubbling under: Ben Franks (Crusaders)
