England coach Martin Johnson recalled former captain Phil Vickery on Tuesday for Saturday's much-anticipated international against Australia at Twickenham; the two sides having last locked horns when England knocked the Wallabies out of the World Cup in 2007.

Vickery, on the bench for last Saturday's 39-13 win against the Pacific Islanders at Twickenham, starts in the front row in a straight swop with rival prop Matt Stevens.

Elsewhere in the pack, lock Nick Kennedy — who scored a try on his debut against the Islanders — drops out of the squad altogether.

His place in the starting line-up is taken by Tom Palmer with Palmer's bench position going to the experienced Simon Shaw.

Wasps second-row Palmer, 29, who made his debut in 2001, will be winning his 11th cap.

England's back division is unchanged for what will be 2003 World Cup-winning captain Johnson's second match as England manager.
