Former Chiefs and All Black star Byron Kelleher says Dan Carter’s move to France could well end up helping him become an even better player.

Kelleher is currently in his second season with Toulouse in the Top 14 and has been a great success for them, winning the Player of the Year award last season and having already began the current campaign in fantastic form.

The scrumhalf admitted that he has also been in touch with his former team-mate about what he can expect when he finally gets his short-team contract with Perpignan underway.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph the scrumhalf said: “I’ve wound him up about having to learn Catalan and how the French will welcome him at the bottom of a ruck.

“It is a great move for Dan and will give him a fresh rugby and mental perspective to take back to New Zealand.”
