The Boland Cavaliers have received a double dose of good news ahead of their Currie Cup rugby match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Flyhalf Elgar Watts, a doubtful starter earlier in the week as a result of a calf injury, has been cleared to play.

"It's tremendous news," team manager Denver Pienaar said.

"A medical check-up proved the calf was only bruised and that there is no tear in the muscle," Pienaar said.

Other good news is that the Springbok Sevens star Danwel Demas, who injured his shoulder against Western Province, has recovered and will wear the number 11 jersey.

The only bad news is that hooker Harry Vermaas will definitely not be fit for the trip to Bloemfontein. He injured a calf muscle against Province.

Coach Deon Davids made just three changes to the team that slipped to a 7-23 defeat against Western Province at a muddy Boland Stadium last week — with flank Zolani Mofu, lock Cecil Kemp and hooker Pieter Wium getting the nod.

Mofu will welcome the challenge to test his ball-winning skills against the Cheetahs' loose trio this week, as he replaces Angelo Brinkhuys on the openside of the scrum, while Cecil Kemp partners Nico Esterhuyse in the second row in place of Bradley Mockford.

Wium comes in for the injured Vermaas, while Clemen Lewis wins a place on the bench.
