Springboks hooker Bismarck du Plessis has been cited for an incident in South Africa's 30-28 Tri-Nations victory over New Zealand at Carisbrook, Dunedin, on Saturday.

Du Plessis was cited by citing commissioner Dick Byres under Law 10.4 (k) for alleged contact with the eyes or eye area of All Black flank Adam Thomson in the 11th minute of the first half.

He will appear before SANZAR Judicial Officer Kim Garling at the Otago Rugby Football Union (ORFU) offices in Dunedin Sunday.

The time of the hearing is yet to be determined.

It will be a cruel blow for the Boks, who are still without injured captain John Smit, as they head to Perth to face Australia next week.

Smit injured his groin when he was spear-tackled by All Black lock Brad Thorn in the 19-8 win in Wellington in the Tri-Nations' opening match last week.

Thorn was later cited and banned for a week.

Du Plessis played a crucial role in the Boks' comeback victory in Dunedin.

The win was sealed through a brilliant late try by Ricky Januarie, that saw the World Cup-winning Springboks break through a psychological barrier to beat the All Blacks.

In a nail-biting finish, the winning points came with less than five minutes remaining and the Springboks down to 14 men after captain Victor Matfield was sinbinned for a high tackle.

Januarie, one of the smallest players on the field, chipped over All Blacks fullback Leon MacDonald, gathered the ball and sprinted 20 metres to go over the line.

Francois Steyn coolly landed the winning conversion for the Springboks to end a 10-year run of defeats in New Zealand, securing their first win on Dunedin's notorious House of Pain and regain the number one world ranking.

It also ended a world record 30-match home winning streak by the All Blacks
