Springbok prop Lawrence Sephaka could presumably be playing Currie Cup rugby in the red and white jersey of the Lions in the near future.

It has emerged that Lions coach Eugene Eloff has approached Sephaka about the possibility of playing for the Gauteng outfit again.

Sephaka currently holds 24 caps for South Africa, having made his Test debut way back in 2001 against the United States of America.

The burly prop has just returned from a stint in France with second division outfit Toulon.

Sephaka had only moderate success during his time there, and Toulon did not exercise their option of extending Sephaka's contract.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) released Sephaka from his contract last year to enable him to play for Toulon, on the condition that they had the first right of refusal on the player upon the completion of his contract in France.

"Lawrence has arrived here [on Wednesday], and we want to have a good look at him," coach Eloff told this website.

"We will have a meeting on Monday with Lawrence and our CEO [Manie Reynecke], where we will discuss the matter.

"We will thus only make a final decision about the player next week," Eloff said.

Lions forward coach Leon Boshoff, said that the he would be glad to have Sephaka at his disposal.

"We can definitely use him [in the Currie Cup]. We need a tighthead prop," Boshoff told Beeld.

Sephaka would be an experienced addition to the Lions front row. He would also add versatility to the mix, as he is comfortable playing in both the loosehead and tighthead position.
