Boland scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenhage joined the Western Province team training at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Bellville on Monday.
The former Paarl Gymnasium schoolboy was part of the Stormers pre-season training squad earlier this year and is currently on loan from Boland for the Currie Cup, according to the official WP website.
WP head coach Allister Coetzee is determined to keep his team in the hunt for a semifinal berth and with both Ricky Januarie and Bolla Conradie doing duty for the Springboks at the Tri-Nations, Coetzee has cited the need to strengthen his artillery at scrumhalf.
The promising Conrad Hoffmann is still undergoing rehabilitation following groin surgery and is at least two weeks away from getting back onto the training field.
WP suffered a setback to their campaign by losing to Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday, following successive victories over the Blue Bulls and Cheetahs in week two and
three.
The team travel north to face the Falcons in Brakpan on Friday.
The 20-year-old scrumhalf, who was part of the SA Under-20 team earlier this year, has already represented Boland this season, but the competition rulings do not prevent him from representing another province. Representation regulations only state that a player has to play three matches for a specific province to be eligible for a Currie Cup semifinal for that province.
Emerging Springbok Isma-eel Dollie is on loan to Boland for the remainder of the season, where he will get an opportunity as a first choice flyhalf.
Currently Willem de Waal is first choice at pivot for WP.
When Peter Grant returns from Springbok duty it would've been likely that Isma-eel move to third choice, and the move to Boland will allow Isma-eel to gain valuable match experience.
Boland Cavaliers assistant coach Louis Koen confirmed that Dollie has already started going through his
paces with the Boland team on Monday.
Dollie is of course no stranger to Boland, having played there in last year's Currie Cup competition.
"Isma-eel is already training with us here," Koen told rugby365.com on Tuesday.
"I think it's a privilege for us to once again have the services of such a good player.
"He contributed a great deal to our effort last year, and we're hoping that Isma-eel can do the same for us this year.
"I hope that we can create the necessary opportunities for him to show what he is capable of," concluded Koen.
