From Springbok training squad member two months ago to a club player. This is the reality for unwanted flyhalf Isma-eel Dollie, who has been axed from the Boland Cavaliers squad for Saturday's Western Cape Currie Cup derby against Western Province at Newlands.

Dollie, who was a member of Peter de Villiers's initial Springbok training squad in May and then went on to represent the victorious Emerging South African team at the International Rugby Board (IRB) Nations Cup tournament in Romania, has now been discarded by both provinces in Saturday's must-win showdown.

The former SA Under-21 star, who was unwilling to discuss his latest setback with the media, is now expected to turn out of SK-Walmers in the Western Province club league this weekend.

Boland coach Deon Davids denied that there was anything sinister in his decision to drop Dollie and said that was all about the "team dynamics — as he named a bench that features five forwards and just two backs.

Dollie is on loan to Boland from WP, after he failed to get any game time at the Cape Town team. Then, having moved up the N1 to Wellington, found himself sitting on the bench again ... still without any game time.

Now he has been reduced to club duty.

The Boland coach, Davids, said incumbent flyhalf Elgar Watts has played well in recent weeks and deserves his place, but he promised that Dollie would get "some game time" in the future — which is the kind of promise that saw Dollie leave Newlands for the Boland Stadium in the first place.

Davids made three changes to his team for this week's trip to Newlands.

Veteran wing and Currie Cup try-scoring record holder John Daniels will start in the number 14 jersey ahead of Sevens Springbok Stefan Basson, Kobus Meintjies replaces Dewey Swartbooi at inside centre and Zolani Mofu starts as the openside flank ahead of Whalied Heyns.

Boland Cavaliers: 15 Justin Peach, 14 John Daniels, 13 Deon Scholtz, 12 Kobus Meintjies, 11 Renfred Dazel, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Marnus Hugo, 8 Dries van Schalkwyk, 7 Henley du Plessis (captain), 6 Zolani Mofu, 5 Bradley Mockford, 4 Frikkie Spies, 3 WP Nel, 2 Pieter Wium, 1 Jean Botha.
