South Korea's Ji-Young Oh parred the first playoff hole to beat Yani Tseng and win the $1.7-million LPGA State Farm Classic on Sunday.
It was the first US LPGA Tour win for Oh, who shot a three-under 69 in the final round to get into the one-hole playoff with Taiwan's Tseng. She rolled in six birdies on the day, including four on the back nine. Tseng, winner of the LPGA Championship last month, had a chance to win the tournament in regulation but stumbled on the final hole with a bogey. Her approach on the 270-yard number 18 hit the grandstand. She then missed a six-foot putt for the win sending the tournament into a playoff. Oh was signing autographs on the sidelines when she learned they would be headed to a playoff as both finished at 18-under-par 270. The playoff returned to number 18 where Tseng bogeyed the hole again. After chipping within a foot of the hole, Oh tapped in for her par and the first prize of $255 000. LPGA stars Lorena Ochoa, Annika Sorenstam and Paula Creamer decided to skip the Springfield event. The tournament will be remembered as much for Michelle Wie's disqualification as Oh's victory. Wie was disqualified Saturday after finishing the third round in second place, a stroke behind Tseng. Wie was penalized after failing to immediately sign and return her scorecard at the end of the second round on Friday.AFP
