Infrastructure

The iafrica.com Interactive Content Management System is built on an architecture that is both robust and scalable. An intelligent switch balances the load between three web servers which are Intel™ based machines running a Linux operating system. The Apache web server is used to serve a combination of both static and dynamic HTML pages. All three servers are dual processor with RAID5 providing a high level of redundancy and reliability.

The primary database is built on a Sun Enterprise 450 server running Oracle 8i. The secondary database is kept synchronized for use in the event of primary database failure.

In addition, two mirrored file servers store all static HTML files as well as scripts, images and all other files that may be required by a site.

A range of auxiliary servers is used for support functions. These include a Log server for log reporting purposes, a backup server where all machines are backed up to tape, an email server, a DNS server and a credit card processing server, which provides the system with an interface to a secure payment gateway.

Because Private Label provides a completely hosted solution, all of the costs, from software and development to maintenance, hardware, support, training and connectivity are all built into the solution. This allows our clients to outsource everything that is not core to their business, maintaining a world-class Internet or intranet operation for a predictable and manageable monthly cost.
