Murder accused Najwa Petersen is not only under siege from
prosecutors: one of her string of former lawyers is also seeking his
due.
Attorney Norman Snitcher, who acted in her first bail hearing and an
appeal, has applied for a default judgement for R125 022.58 in unpaid
fees.
The application goes before the Cape High Court on 15 May.
The amount includes R13 872.58 for Snitcher's own fees, and a claim
for 65 hours of work, at R1300 an hour, by her former advocate Craig
Webster.
Snitcher said in an affidavit that Petersen appointed him in June
last year, and terminated his mandate on 7 September.
She had acknowledged that she owed the money, he said.
"Despite demand, defendant has refused and/or neglected to pay to
plaintiff the amount of R125 022.58," Snitcher said.
He is also asking for the costs of the application.
Petersen and three alleged hitmen are on trial in the Cape High
Court, charged
with the murder of her entertainer husband Taliep in
December 2006.
Since Snitcher and Webster, she has been through one other legal
team, and is now on her third.
