Messages of support have been flooding in for singer Steve Hofmeyr after he underwent emergency surgery.

The musician was rushed to a Johannesburg hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning when he began experiencing severe abdominal pains.

He was then rushed into surgery to repair his perforated colon. Hofmeyr has been moved out of ICU and is now recovering well.

His friend Amanda Singleton said the singer's fans have been encouraging.

Hofmeyr has had to postpone a number of his concerts and is expected to be out of action for at least a month to ensure proper recovery.
